Today we had kiwi golf with Melanie. There was some good skills being developed. There might even be some promising Lydia Ko's in Room 3! Yesterday we had a great day at Toitu Museum. It was great to learn more about early Dunedin. It was great fun dressing up and acting out travelling from Scotland to New Zealand. Peter was the star at acting! We got a lot of funny looks as we walked through the museum in our dress up clothes! We must have looked very realistic! Despite it being a bit misty today, we had a great tramp over the Pineapple Track. It was lovely walking up high in the tussocks and feeling like we were walking in the clouds. It was great to see how well everyone was walking and enjoying themselves. It looks like we are ready for our big tramp at camp! Welcome to Balmacewen! All the year 7's have been welcomed to Balmacewen through our powhiri on Friday. It was wonderful to be greeted by a wonderful haka as we entered the hall. Thanks Mr Cooke for your whaikorero. The waiata were pretty amazing too. Today Room 3 and Room 4 spent the day at the beach learning about safety when using the beach. The day covered lots of important information about how to use the beach environment well, including how to identify rips and what to do if caught in a rip. There were a variety of cool activities including games outside on the beach and making sand sculptures. The highlight though, was probably the swimming. The waves didn't look big from the beach but they sure made an impact when they hit you. There was lots of squealing when the waves hit (some of the squealing was from me too!) but it was great fun. What a great day out! Well done Isabelle for your certificate. It is great to see you being happy and trying your best. I really appreciated how you have made the effort to include others and work with
Hannah competed at the Surf Life saving champs in Christchurch last weekend. She had a very successful weekend!
We have begun into our PE sessions, practicing our catching and throwing of small balls. Great to see some good skills developing, both in skills as well as in games. Last week we were playing non-stop cricket. This week I thought we could use the crazy catch nets to practice our catching! I have been very impressed with Room 3. What a wonderful start to 2014. I have enjoyed the enthusiasm and commitment to learning. I am looking forward to an action packed year of learning!
