We have begun looking at persuasive language in class. We have looked at visual persuasive language like ads, had a go at acting out arguments and today played the persuasive argument game on BBC Bitesize games. We are building up our persuasive skills to use in our writing and also our ASPIRE this term.

On Friday we watched A Pep Talk from Kid President. It was pretty inspiring and I loved his quote at the end, "Create something that will make the world awesome!" This relates so well to our ASPIRE this term. We are looking at creating change through challenge. We will be creating a film to show how to cope with a change and using persuasive elements in our films to persuade others to make a change.
We are following the Commonwealth Games and are interested in seeing how well our teams will go. It is exciting to see we have already got 3 medals including one gold.
Over the next 2 weeks we are working on some Commonwealth tasks: What is the Commonwealth? Describe and explain what the Commonwealth is. What makes it significant? Commonwealth Countries: List the countries and label on a world map. (Hint: there are about 71 nations.) Scotland: · Research about Scotland · Include some similarities and differences when compared with New Zealand. · Prepare an itinerary of 3 or 4 places that a tourist might visit while in Scotland. Include some things you would like to visit or do while in Scotland. Sports: What sports are at the Commonwealth Games this year? NZ Team/Athlete: Follow a NZ team or athlete. Explain the sport. Track their progress during the Games. Persuasive Language: There has been discussion over whether the Commonwealth Games are still important and significant. I want you to research this further and decide which position that you will take: for the Commonwealth Games or against the Commonwealth Games. We will be using this research to write a persuasive letter. Presentation ideas: booklet, poster, powerpoint, blog, filmed, google presentation, etc Well done Room 3 on a successful and very busy Term 2. I hope you have a great holiday and that you come back for an exciting Term 3. Thanks for all your hard work this term.
