The whistle blew, a short, sharp noise. “Confidence Course people over here!” someone yelled. this was it. I couldn’t wait.
As we made our way over to the course, I wondered what it would be like. As it loomed into view, I realised how big it was. It was way bigger than I expected.
When Room 3 Shetland House lined up for a practice run, I couldn’t help but look around at the challenges we would have to face. While the team ran along, I began to feel relaxed and content. All until we got to the tyre wall. It towered above me like the Eifel Tower. I was cast into its shadow. I forced myself to go up and over. I stayed up there for awhile, admiring myself for doing it. Then we went on and finished the rest of the course, so we all knew it like the backs of our hands.
“Ready, steady, GO!” I was off, it was now or never. I ran as fast as I could, not even stopping at the tyre wall. When I heard my time was 1.25 minutes, I thought that it was a pretty good time for my first time. As I catch my breath, I begin to time others. Everybody else did amazingly.
While we head back to camp to cook pancakes, I feel proud and pleased with myself. I couldn’t believe I had conquered the Confidence Course! I felt that the pancakes were a well-deserved and yummy snack.
