Crawling through the long grass, I stopped. The forest was dark and eerie, the only lights were the pinpricks that came through from the shining moon. I knew the adults were out there, like monsters ready to pounce on their unsuspecting prey.
Heart pounding I started to move towards the protection of the trees. Next minute, “Ow who’s pulling my hair?”,the trees long spindly fingers had grasped fine hair. As I tried to pull free, the wind seemed to whisper “Adult, adult, up their behind the tree”. My heart stopped for a split second and I froze as the eyes of a monster scanned over my head. I heard the voice of an excited adult “Spotlight”. As the eyes of the monster faded away I ripped my hair free and frantically scrambled up the bank to the path.
The adults were everywhere, behind almost every tree and all with the same goal, to catch an innocent child. I quickly and quietly dropped to the ground. I could taste the dirt in my mouth and could feel the mud clinging to my skin.
As I scrambled up the final bank I heard excited babble “Did you make it?” I had succeeded in conquering the dark and eerie forest and I had escaped the adults with their monster-like eyes.
Sleep called me. I could not wait to curl up in my warm relaxing, sleeping bag.
